Coastal Carolina Cachers - Travel Bug Race The rules, below, are designed to promote the spirit of the race: Geocachers randomly chancing upon TB racers and moving them according to their will and whim, with no influence by race owners. Racing Rules: The purpose of the CCC TB Race is to HAVE FUN! The Race begins 1/1/16 and ends at 23:59 EST 12/31/16. Participants may start their TB(s) in cache(s) of their choosing. (After getting an official race tag). We refer to this as a “soft start.” Or bugs can be dropped off at any Coastal Carolina Cachers event. Owners may enter up to, but no more than 5 TBs per owner. The TB and the hitchhiker are the property of the owner. The owner takes responsibility for securely attaching the racing ID tag and TB tag to the traveler, and for potential theft or mishandling during the race. When activating your TB, please enter the initials CCC - TBR (for Coastal Carolina Cachers - Travel Bug Racer) before the TB’s name. This allows TBs to be alphabetized in the watch list. (Example: If your TB’s name is “Elvis Express,” then enter it as “CCC - TBR Elvis Express.”) Dipping (or visiting) is permitted. Owners are on their honor NOT to contact others in order to influence or promote the movement of their racer(s). Owners are NOT permitted to move their own racer(s). If they do, they will be asked to remove those logs. TBs will be identified with the official CCC racing ID tag, so cachers will know your TB is in a race. These laminated tags will be distributed at every Coastal Carolina Cachers event throughout the year. To get a tag bring your bug to a CCC event. Laminated tags will only be distributed to bugs with zero accumulated miles. Race owners are encouraged to place competitors’ TBs on their “watch list.” Should a discrepancy in points and standings arise, we can monitor each others’ calculations for accuracy. In the event that a TB ends up missing, the owner must make an attempt to contact the cache owner and verify the TB’s status. If the TB is truly missing, you may re-enter the race using a copy tag, and you will also need to add a race ID tag (to let cachers know your bug is in a race). You are allowed to release a copy tag only once during the course of the event. All points earned up to the point your original TB went missing will count. However, mileage between the last cache visited and the first cache your copy visits, will NOT count. If the copy tag goes missing - the bug is then considered dead in the water and only thus accumulated points will be counted. Please contact the race host BEFORE releasing a copy TB. Should an issue arise not covered by the Racing Rules, the Race Host will make the final judgement. Feel free to post rules and bonuses to your bug page (optional) or you can make one of the bonuses the bug’s goal.
