The most famous mountain in Switzerland is Mt. Matterhorn because of its distinctive sharp shape.
The Norwegians have their own Mt. Matterhorn. It is Mt. Innerdalstårnet and with its altitude of 1453 meters it is only about a third of the altitude of the Swiss mountain.
But despite the low altitude, the landscape here is fantastic and has a lot to offer: Glaciers, waterfalls, autumn-colored birch forests and just that Matterhorn.
We spent the whole day on the trail and by the end of the hike we had walked 20 km and had a total elevation gain of more than1400 meters.

  • The evening before the hike
  • Soon after sunrise
  • Glaciers and birch forests
  • A fantastic landscape
  • The Norwegian Mt. Matterhorn. And blueberries grow on the roofs of the houses
  • No one mows the lawn on the roofs
  • It is beautiful here
  • The mountains have only an altitude of 1600 meters

Following the recommendation of a Norwegian geocacher, today we drove the Atlantic Ocean Road.
The road is 8274 meters long and was completed in 1989 and crosses the sea over 8 bridges and small islands.
And from the road you can also see a wreck of a ship that seems to be lying there for some time.
in order to see the road also from above then we climbed Mt. Stemshesten, a mountain nearby.

The weather is slowly improving and yesterday we tried to climb the highest mountain in the area. But we aborted the tour halfway up. Crossing sloping rocks covered with wet, slippery lichen is not a good idea.
Today the sun was shining again and we had no problems reaching the summit of Mt. Spillumsfjellet.

  • Bad view on Thursday
  • And it's cold and windy
  • Best weather on Friday
  • At the summit of Mt. Spillumsfjellet

Yesterday there was a severe weather warning for heavy rain and storms.
We stayed in the parking lot and didn't leave the car.
After checking that we still had enough food in the fridge and enough diesel in the tank for the auxiliary heating, I felt very relaxed.
Today it was very cloudy and we drove further south. Unfortunately, we didn't see much of the landscape. Boring. At some point I must have fallen asleep. When I woke up again, I looked at the navigation system to see where we were. I was shocked! We were driving on the water with 20 km/h! What's going on here? Oh, we're on a ferry. Well, then everything is fine.

  • We drive across the water with 20 km/h

It's supposed to get much colder in Sweden now and we've already seen fresh snow on the mountains this morning.
We are still north of the Arctic Circle and should finally move a bit south and back to the coast, where it is warmer due to the Gulf Stream.
The Norwegian coastal road is very beautiful, but progress is very slow. The roads are narrow and there is always a fjord in the way, which takes a lot of time to drive around.

  • On the road along the Norwegian coastal road
  • The Hålogaland Bridge with a length of 1533 m
