We drove a little further and are now on the island of Senja on the west coast of Norway. Everything is a little more adventurous here: the roads are narrow, the mountains steep, and the road tunnels poorly illuminated. And, of course, there is only one lane. There is little traffic here, and no one is coming the other way. Only when Nilpferd wants to drive through the tunnel there is traffic coming the other way. Even though it was only a short distance, Nilpferd was not amused driving backwards in the narrow tunnel in semi-darkness to the next passing place.
Today's mountain tour took us to Mt. Hesten, which offers a great view to Mount Senja. It is only 639 meters above sea-level and drops vertically to the sea on the west side. And the north side, which can be seen from Mt. Hesten, is not much flatter.
In various YouTube videos, the mountain is considered as unclimbable, but since the cache at the summit only has a T rating of 3.5, that can't be right. So we tried it this afternoon: from the south side. It's a steep but not really difficult ascent.
At the summit, we met a nice Norwegian woman who recommended a few more hikes to us.
