"I assure you there is a mark on this door--the usual one in the trade, or used to be. Burglar wants a good job, plenty of Excitement and reasonable Reward, that's how it is usually read. You can say Expert Treasure-hunter instead of Burglar if you like."
In J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, it’s explained that the wizard Gandalf carves a mark into Bilbo Baggins' door so that the dwarves would know which hobbit hole their prospective burglar lived in. This mark is seen in Tolkien's own artwork of Gandalf at this moment (see Gallery pic). I wanted my trackable tattoo to represent many things--adventurous journeys, the fellowship of good friends, well told stories, laughter, loyalty through difficult times, strong faith, and, of course, have somewhat of a geocaching theme. I thought this "mark" captured all of these things.
Jeremiah 6:16 is one of my favorite Bible verses. It speaks to the finding of true wisdom, happiness, and peace... as well as to the unfortunate fact that many willingly choose to not pursue these things:
This is what the Lord says:
"Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is; and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’"
