Current Goal

The mission of this Rubber Duckie is to travel far and wide. Maybe it will inspire people to sing the Rubber Duckie song from Sesame Street.

About This Item

Rubber ducks have been around for about 65 million years. The modern rubber one is a little newer. Basically, it started with “vulcanized rubber”, the stuff that you drive on. In 1844, Charles Goodyear mixed it with chemicals and polymers to make it more durable and patented the process.

The origins of the rubber duck are a little murky, but it goes something like this: In the ’40s, the Rempel company of Akron, Ohio made the first iteration. It was a hollow, walking rubber duck with a sick mohawk. This duck was meant for land but, as indoor plumbing became more common in the ’50s, it found its way into suburban homes and bathtubs.

Contrary to popular belief, “rubber” ducks weren’t made of rubber for very long. Instead, as the bath toy became more popular, manufacturers opted for softened plastic. Later on, it changed to vinyl plastic. But the name rubber ducky has endured.

The travel bug tag as well as the duck are homemade.

Shake me. I rattle.

While not a baseball game I'll take you to a Hokies football game.

Placed in WVTim’s TB Hotel. It looks like the Yanks are really making a comeback in the current ALCS post-season. They were down 0-2, but then when the series moved to NYC, they won all three there and now lead Houston 3-2 in games of the series won. It's best of seven - will they win one more with (possibly) two left to play in Houston?

It should be an interesting post-season. I had been carrying this cool baseball-themed TB since I found it in the wilds north of I-80 in PA. It has been out to Kalamazoo, MI, and back, and now, hopefully, another baseball fan can pick it up from WVTim's hotel to carry onward.

Saw this cache nearby after church on a visit to Kalamazoo and knew the TB had to visit.

Cache page says Jeter is from here, so how fitting to get a stop here for the Yankees TB at a baseball field and park in town.
