Daphne the Dolphin and Wally the Whale Shark got tired of the ocean, so they decided to hitch a ride on the trackable express. Their goal: To be taken to an aquarium where they can be in the ocean without actually being in the ocean or to be taken on your next trip to anywhere in the world.
Daphne the Dolphin has a drawing a of a dolphin on the front and her name and tracking code on the back. Her hitchhker is Wally the Whale Shark, who has been her best friend since the beginning of time.
A dolphin is an aquatic mammal within the infraorder Cetacea. Dolphin species belong to the families Delphinidae (the oceanic dolphins), Platanistidae (the Indian river dolphins), Iniidae (the New World river dolphins), Pontoporiidae (the brackish dolphins), and the extinct Lipotidae (baiji or Chinese river dolphin). There are 40 extant species named as dolphins.
The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is a slow-moving, filter-feeding carpet shark and the largest known extant fish species. The largest confirmed individual had a length of 18.8 m (61.7 ft). The whale shark holds many records for size in the animal kingdom, most notably being by far the largest living nonmammalian vertebrate. It is the sole member of the genus Rhincodon and the only extant member of the family Rhincodontidae. It is currently listed as vulnerable. Mainly because of hunting for its meat, fins, and oil.
Cetaceans are an infraorder of aquatic mammals that includes whales, dolphins, and porpoises. (Sadly this does not include Wally because he is a shark.) Key characteristics are their fully aquatic lifestyle, streamlined body shape, often large size and exclusively carnivorous diet. They propel themselves through the water with powerful up-and-down movement of their tail which ends in a paddle-like fluke, using their flipper-shaped forelimbs to maneuver. A group of cetaceans is called a pod. This is my pod.
