Current Goal

This is the first ever nationwide pinewood derby race, and we want to cross the finish line!

Help us speed along by moving this Travel Bug. We want to meet as many Scouts and non-scouts as possible along our journey. We also want to log miles and caches quickly. The more the better! Please help us log miles by placing this bug in well traveled and quick moving caches. And be sure to tell us about your Scouting memories in your log.

Help the Scouts and Scouters from the Alamo Area Council move this pinewood derby Travel Bug across the nation and into as many Scout and non-Scout hands as possible.

About This Item

AACBSA Race to 2010

This is the official Alamo Area Council Pinewood Derby car. It was designed after perhaps the most recognized building in the State of Texas; the Alamo. Hundreds of Pinewood Derby cars representing every council in the United States are in a race across the Untied States using geocaching. The cars are Travel Bugs, moving from cache to cache across America as they attempt to reach the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill in Virginia. The Jamboree begins July 26th. Prizes will be awarded for the Pinewood Derby cars that travel the farthest, pass through the most hands, or have the most creative routes, among others.

Once the final “finish line” coordinates at the National Jamboree have been published, we will update the listing. All of the Pinewood Derby cars that arrive at the Jamboree will be displayed in a special geocaching area in “Technology Quest.” After the Jamboree, the cars will be released again to continue their race … around the world. Scouts and Scouters can track their car’s progress, read posted comments, and log the miles it travels on Geocaching.com.

So good to see SM325! It was three years ago when we met at Philmont, and now we see each other again - still geocaching!

This car was dropped at the Technology Quest geocaching activity and will be moved to the pit stop to complete its goal.

Well, well, well little travel bug pinewood car thing. I found you tonight in my troop's geocache. Guess what? I am headed for the National Jamboree tomorrow. What a coincidence! I would be honored to take you to the Technology Quest. I'll try to get some photos once we get to the jambo.

I picked this up in Pennsylvania where some of my sons had a summer "high adventure" that I participated in as one of the scout leaders. I brought it back to Dayton, OH where I will put it in a cache maintained by Troop 325. I'm sure they will enjoy moving it along for more miles.
