About This Item

This Geocache trackable is in memory of my dearest friend Chloe Schneider. One of Chloes's favorite nature loving activities was to Geocache, so this is a way to allow her to continue on. Chloe was born on April 2, 2000 and lived to the age of 16. When she was tragically killed by a distracted driver on her phone while riding her bike on November 2,2016. 

To Whom ever finds this please remember never to drive distracted. Put your phone away, it can wait. There is no need for anyone to go through this tragedy that could have been avoided by safe driving practices.

There is a few other bikes for her team mates hope you find those too!!

    I was very excited to find this trackable as I'm an avid cyclist and now having read the mission for it I have an even greater appreciation of its significance. I am myself a committed advocate for road safety and am part of a group that memorializes cyclists who have been killed in crashes by installing Ghost Bikes. I will be sure to share the story of this trackable with others and take it to visit some the memorials we have set up in the Boston area.

    • Trail Map The trail near Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, MA where we retrieved the trackable.
    • MassBike With Galen Mook, the executive director of MassBike, Massachusets's state-wide bike advocacy organization that works to make our streets safer for cyclists.
    • Somerville Bike Month Kickoff The trackable visited with Ken Carlson, chair of the Somerville Bike Committee and Peter Cheung, on of the founders of the Boston Bike Party, a massive group ride attended by hundreds of cyclists each month.
    • Ghost Bike The Ghost Bike we placed to remember Paula Shiraga, a local children's librarian who was struck and killed by a truck in this dangerous intersection. My office is in the background.

    I'm so sorry to hear Chloe's sad story. What a tragedy. We left this TB on a bike path. I don't usually leave them on bike paths, but this was a multi, with a hard final, so I think it will be safe.
