Mid size coin with heft. 1.75 inches by 1.25 inches 3 mm thick 19.6 grams silver. 200 coins minted. Available in other metal/enamel colors. Unusual shape of a sword piercing the medallion. This coin has excellent delicate 3-D work as well as having the sword extend beyond the coin rim. The font medallion shows the grail with rays eminating from it. There is styalized script, near the rim, that reads "The quest begins Denbighshire cache event 2006". The background texture is actually extremely detailed 3-D work. The rim is done in matte red enamel. The reverse medallion shows an ammo box with the words "the ultimate quest" on it. The ammo box is open and it spills over with coins. The same style script (as the front) reads "Knights of the Ammo Box" This side continues the nice 3-D work that is even found on the sword hilt. The rim has the same red matte enamel. Additional enamel is slight and located on the center medallion, The photos do not do this coin justice. Euro coin. One of the best designed and executed 2006 coins I have seen anywhere.
Designed by Team Maddie UK. Colors: green = attendees, red = North America, yellow = volunteers, blue = rest of the world. The coin was producwd for the "Shrops 2006 - In Search of The Grail" event,
September 1-3, 2006 sees the start of the Quest Events. To commemorate the start of these events, an event coin has been commissioned. The first of the events is being held in Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales so the coin will have the WL prefix.
Since most of the United Kingdom has or lays claim to King Arthur and Arthurian connections, the theme allows the events to be moved around the UK. In the beginning, Arthur needed to remove Excalibur from a stone to prove his worthiness to the throne giving us the theme for the coin,
This coin is gc trackable and will have its own icon. No artwork available on the icon yet but it will be a sword (in keeping with the theme). There will only be 200 coins made available to North American non-attendees.
This is an event geocoin for a large geocaching event that took place in the United Kingdom. Because the theme is King Arthur and the Quest for the Grail, it allowed the event to move about the British Isles, since all parts of the area lay some claim to the legend.
200 geocoins with a red ring were minted for sale in North America. Coins with green rings were minted for event attendees, and gold geocoins were made for volunteers. There were also blue-ring geocoins made for sale to the rest of the world.
So many of my GCs have been muggled that I only release new GCs as virtuals. If you do not approve, please leave it in the cache for a cacher who understands. Thanks. HL

Thanks to the 2023 Christmas Day blizzard my daughter, JMVonFange, was delayed in heading home so we spent the bonus time together comparing our caching statistics including trackables discovered and looking through our geocaching pictures. JM has discovered significantly more trackables that I have mainly because while we were staying home during the pandemic she spent time online and spotted numerous TBs that were being shared virtually on various social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. Thankfully, she still had a few notes that helped guide my search for the same trackables that she had already discovered. After looking at the TB page for each of the TBs that she had discovered, I found that a large number all belonged to several individuals and sent a message to them individually inquiring about permission to log their trackables. This travel bug was on the list that you shared with me.
