My mission is to travel around and visit as many zoo's, animal sanctuaries, or animal themed caches as possible. Post pictures with our feathered or furry friends if you can!
This patch started as a prize from a bird sanctuary, and I named it in honor of my favorite little dude to work with from there.
Veto himself is an American Kestrel, the smallest as well as the most common type of falcon that you will find in North America. Their coloring actuallly varies between males and females, like many birds but unlike most raptors. Even though they are small, they boast one of the best fledge rates (number of babies to survive to leave the nest) in the raptor world. This is due to their use of cavity nests such as boxes or abandoned (or comandeered) woodpecker nests, as well as how fiercely they defended their nests. Their diet consists of anything small enough for them to catch, from grasshoppers, to mice, to even sparrows!
