Craft. It’s a word that gets tossed around a lot. Finding the right pieces, selecting each ingredient and then combining them with no shortcuts. It is the difference between making a pot of coffee and crafting the perfect cup.
That is what we do. We find the best ingredients and we take the time to make things right. It is a simple philosophy. Make the things you like, look for what makes you happy, then share it. It is just like in geocaching, if you hide the kinds of caches you enjoy finding, if you take the time to craft something special, you will find an audience.
At Captain Rodney’s we’ve been Geocaching nearly as long as we’ve been making our all-natural sauces, jellies and jams. We are passionate about sharing our products and our adventures and we want to be a part of yours. To share your adventure with us, snap a photo and post it on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #CachingWithCaptainRodneys #contest. We will pick the 25 pictures that best capture the spirit of adventure and exploration for a Captain Rodney’s Prize Pack! Learn more about the geocaching promotion here.

We’ve been pirates, of a sort, for most of our lives. Our father, the Cap’n, was a pilot and we spent a lot of time traveling the Caribbean with his business. Flying from island to island, it was easy to imagine ourselves as dashing swashbucklers taking to the air in search of adventure. I guess you could say we caught the travel bug early on and that has always guided us. When we started our family business in 1995, making foods inspired by our time in the islands, the pirate theme stuck and we named it to honor our dad, Captain Rodney.
Since then, we have done a lot of traveling, going to trade shows and sampling our jams, jellies and sauces in stores. In 2003, a fellow traveler sent me a link to Geocaching.com and it changed our lives. Now travel is not just an opportunity to share our products, it is also a chance to explore, to find geocaches in cool locations, the true “hidden treasures” of America. If you've got to be on the road anyway, you might as well make it an adventure. That's how we ended up back in Portland. A couple of years ago, we popped into town to hunt Maine's oldest cache and fell in love with the city and the culinary scene. So we are back for a dessert that eluded us last time, a very particular cup of coffee and the reigning donuts.
Our fellow geocachers have shared so much with us that we wanted to give something back. Our work and our play have always been linked, so partnering with Geocaching HQ on a Trackable Promotion and Contestjust made sense. This summer we will be traveling across the country, attending Mega-Events and hosting our own events to give away unactivated Captain Rodney’s Trackable Tags. Nothing to buy, no sales pitch, just come out, visit with us, share your stories and be a part of the journey.
