Current Goal

I maintain records on my trackables. They have the goal to circulate more than five years and to be moved by at least 25 cachers. That is a target rate of five drops per year for five years, or a drop every 73 days. The average drop rate of my trackables in the US is 115 days, in Europe it is 65 days. As of 21-Mar-22 this one has survived for 2.9 years and had been moved by 10 cachers, for an average drop every 108 days. Please keep it moving!

No permission is needed to leave the U.S. While in the U.S., please drop it in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban cache or abandon it at a caching event where there is no security. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean and dry, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.

About This Item

This “Bear” series of travel bugs are each named for fictional bears of children’s literature, comic books, cartoons, mythology and animated shorts or features.

The first thing that must be said is that, strictly speaking, pandas are not really bears.  That said, children of my age could care less because they looked like bears.  Andy Panda was a funny animal cartoon character who starred in his own series of animated cartoon short subjects produced by Walter Lantz.  The cartoons were released by Universal Pictures from 1939 to 1947 and United Artists from 1948 to 1949.  The titular character was an anthropomorphic panda.   Andy became the second star of the Walter Lantz cartoons after Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.  He achieved considerable popularity until being eventually supplanted by Woody Woodpecker.  There was also a series of Andy Panda comic books and toys produced in the same period. The image is of Andy and Miranda Panda.
