Betelgeuse is the brightest star in the famous constellation Orion and is 8 million years old. It is located 600 light-years from Earth. However, Betelgeuse is nearing the end of its life, and it will shortly, astronomically speaking, explode. When astronomers say Betelgeuse is expected to explode soon, they mean shortly in astronomical terms: within a million years, according to several sources, but predicting exactly when it will explode is difficult, however, when it does, it will create a stunning supernova that will be visible on Earth, even in broad daylight.
This TB currently has two stars - please feel free to add more to the keyring.... and next time you're outdoors at night and the skies are clear, look up and see if you can spot Betelgeuse.
