The Constellation: The Aquarius constellation is located in the southern hemisphere; it lies in the region of the sky which is sometimes referred to as the Sea, because it contains many other constellations with names associated with water.  Aquarius is the 10th largest constellation in the sky, occupying an area of 980 square degrees and contains famous supergiant star Sadalsuud (Beta Aquarii).  Aquarius is located in the fourth quadrant of the southern hemisphere (SQ4) and can be seen at latitudes between +65° and -90°.

The Myth: The Aquarius myth follows the story of Ganymede, a young prince; said to be the most beautiful young man of Troy.  Long story short, Ganymede caught the eye of Zues, Zeus took the shape of an eagle to swoop down from Mount Olympus to abduct the young boy in order to have him as a personal slave/cupbearer...eventually Ganymede had enough, and pours out all of the wine, ambrosia, and water that belongs to the gods, refusing to be Zeus's cupbearer any longer.  (It is said that the water all fell to Earth, causing flood rains for days upon days, which created a massive flood that engulfed the entire world.)  In the end, Zues immortalized Ganymede as the constellation Aquarius and placing him in the sky adjacent to Aquila (the eagle).

The Zodiac: Aquarius is the 11th astrological sign, an air sign, and represented by the water bearer.  You can consider yourself an Aquarius if you were born between January 20 and February 18.  Those born under this sign are said to be independent and free-spirited.
