Our 72nd state park!!! We made it to all of them! What a summer/trip it has been! The views of the overlook and walking on the swinging suspension bridge high above the raging St. Louis River made Jay Cooke State Park just one more on the list of some wonderful places in Minnesota!. We were glad to have this little TB along with us today.
After spending the night in site #63, we got our cards at Gooseberry after a bit of a mood-breaker hassle and headed towards Jay Cooke. We took the time to drive along the Duluth's Skyline Drive. We learned that the seven bridges on this road were immoratalized in a song sung by The Eagles. We were lucky to be able to stop by a spot along the drive where they were monitoring the fall hawk migration. We got a picture of a Merlin that had been banded and was being re-released. They pointed out a Northern Harrier flying overhead. And as we were leaving they were talking about the Sharpshin Hawk. The Sharpshin was plentiful in the area as they had already spotted 42 of them by 10:00 AM!
We got to Jay Cooke and found the cache at a beautiful overlook. Took a few pictures and then beat it back to the office to get the final coordinates from Kevin Schumacher, a park worker that had worked at Niagra Cave with Denny's son, Andrew, a few years ago.
