What is this funny thing? It's a SPILE. Spiles are used to tap sap out of a maple tree to make maple syrup. A hole is drilled into the tree and the small pointed end of the spile is hammered into the hole. The spout faces outward and a bucket is hung onto the spile to catch the sap as it drips out.

Really glad to see one of these! We'll enjoy some waffles with it!
My geodaughter dropped this in Peak a Boo last week, we found it in Pinnacle tonight. Will have breakfast with this in the morning then move it on to another cache. Thanks!
Will move soon.
Picked this up out of Big Red while working on a 7 stage multi in Oregon's La Pine State Park - I was wondering what it was... now I know.
Since there were no pancakes available, I placed it in the final on the multi I was working on... ~ GG
Found at the beach...far from Vermont on the Oregon coast. Will take a picture with a batch of pancakes soon. Thanks for the interesting facts on the spile.
