One thing I've always been told is that one needs to find a way to not look suspicious while looking for urban caches. One specific thing is to carry a clipboard. If you come into possession of this clipboard, try using it out in the field and see how it works. Make yourself look like you work for the parks department or for a local politician running for office, I've done this several times.
