Current Goal

To move ONLY within a limited area, no more than 10 miles from Westboro, MA ground zero coordinates, so that information attached to the bug will be accessible to those interested in completeing the CSI Series.

About the CSI Series:

The CSI series is a collection of caches that derive their name from the popular television program in which the lead character has often been heard to say, “Follow the evidence.” Unlike a more traditional mystery cache in which a puzzle must be solved to determine the coordinates of the cache, the CSI series offers something different. Instead of conquering a puzzle, you must follow the evidence to each CSI container. For more details about the series and where the “evidence” can be found, go to the CSI-1 cache page click here

About This Item

CSI Travel Bug

The CSI Travel Bug is directly linked to CSI-Epilogue: Sleuth's Handbook, the final cache of the CSI Series.

There are two ways CSI "students" may obtain the Sleuth's Handbook. One option is to locate the CSI Travel Bug which holds coordinates to a micro that begins a multi-stage hunt to the CSI-Epilogue cache.

For more about CSI-Epilogue: The Sleuth's Handbook click here

The CSI Lab also reserves the right to place short-term bonus clues to assist students with a designated CSI cache. Such clues could be placed with the CSI Travel Bug and/or inside any cache the bug has visited. When available, bonus clues will offer specific new evidence for one CSI cache. Such evidence will remain in play for an unknown period of time before being removed.

If you are interested in completing the series, keep this bug on your watchlist. Visitations by the bug owner, or anyone from the CSI Lab, either to check or move the bug, should not be regarded as insignificant by those seeking to accumulate evidence.

Desired destinations for the CSI Travel Bug:

Again, please remember, the purpose of this Travel Bug is to provide access to coordinates for CSI-Epilogue and the Sleuth's Handbook inside, and to provide access to special CSI bonus clues. As a result, the bug should not be moved far and it should not be held for long.

The 10-mile radius from Westboro works well because that encompasses most of the territory in which the CSI series of caches have been placed.

Ideally, it would work best if the bug's movement is limited only to within the following cities/towns listed roughly north to south and west to east below:

Boylston
Berlin
Hudson
Northboro
Marlboro
Sudbury
Westboro
Southboro
Grafton
Upton
Hopkinton

The CSI Sites:

The pictures below reveal the sites you will see as you work your way through the CSI series. Each shot offers a piece of evidence that could help you in some way. There is one picture for each CSI cache including the Epilogue along with a picture that relates to the Vault, with all positioned in no particular order. Additional information about the pictures is provided on the CSI-1 cache page. click here

Had to change the schedule and place the bug today rather than tomorrow. Will be dropping it into E-200.A1 before nightfall. There is now one new clue inside the bug - no more, no less.

In light of the fact that several E-200 caches are on the small side, I opted to put the bug in a special, camo-taped container while it is on its short-term mission at Pisgah.

Please keep the bug in its container and simply place it next to each E-200 cache as it is moved along. The exception will be E-200.C3 – Cozy Cabin where it will hopefully fit above the cache.

If for some reason, the travel bug container does not fit nicely near an E-200 cache, just find a suitable place where it will be well hidden, and write a note in the nearby E-200 log book, and here on the bug page, indicating where exactly you placed it.

If for some reason the mission fails and the bug is taken out of Pisgah, it can then be taken out of its container.

Not sure if the proposed short-term mission will fly, but at a minimum, the new clue should be a slam dunk for most sleuths, hopefully leading you to a CSI spot that is particularly nice time of year.

I just realized the bug will not fit inside E-200.A4 - North Gorge or E-200.B4 Reference Points and it might not fit inside E-200.C3 - Cozy Cabin. However, in each case, the bug should be fine if you leave it in its bag and place it right next to the cache in the case of A4 and B4, and above it in the case of C3.

Stopped in under the cover of darkness on the way home from work to pick up the bug. Thank you to Waxing-Moon for quick action in getting the bug close to me today. Now comes the reward.

Sometime between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM on Friday, I will be placing the CSI bug inside E-200.A1, the first of thirteen caches I released recently inside the Pisgah conservation land. A most generous CSI clue will be placed inside.

In addition, Gil Grissom has an interesting proposition for all CSI sleuths in training and any new students who may enter the academy during the next month or so.

Gil has set a short-term goal for the bug to visit every E-200 cache in sequence. If the bug makes it all the way to E-200.C4 within thirty days, a very special bonus sheet will be placed inside the bug for the following thirty days.

The bonus sheet will contain a clue for every CSI cache and the clues will be numbered so you will know which clue applies to which cache.

The rules are as follows: The bug must visit each E-200 cache in order - It may be moved more than once in the same day but not by the same person - A person may move the bug more than once but not on the same day - The bug may not be handed off between people caching together - It must arrive inside E-200.C4 within thirty days after being placed inside E-200.A1.

I will place a sheet with the bug explaining this short-term goal and hopefully those who see the bug will assist.

If the goal is attained, I will move the bug from E-200.C4 and place it inside the Great Pisgah Challenge with the bonus clue sheet. As this is a tough cache, CSI sleuths will be invited/encouraged to work together both to solve the Great Pisgah Challenge puzzles and then to find the cache, all in an effort to retrieve the bonus sheet during the thirty day time frame it will be available. Those who work together in this regard will have the added benefit of sharing thoughts on the bonus sheet clues when they retrieve the bug.

Be aware that the Great Pisgah Challenge already offers another type of CSI bonus to those who find it. It is explained on the cache page. That bonus in combination with the travel bug bonus should result in CSI trainees qualifying for graduation soon thereafter.

Hope this ads a little extra fun to the CSI pursuit.

Thanks to Waxing-Moon for the quick pick up. The next clue should be extra "helpful" and somewhat timely as well.

I picked it up again yesterday and will try to move it to the Marlboro/Northboro area this weekend.

I know the bug is in an easy access spot but I have not been able to get out that way. If anyone watching can get the bug to the Northboro/Marlboro area, I'll get the next clue in quickly. If not, I'll track it down eventually but it might be a while.
