Svampen ("mushroom") is 58 metres high and is used as a water tower and contains 9 million = 9,000,000 liters of water. The water is pumped up into Svampen and is found in pools up in the hat. The water then flows out to the citizens of Örebro through pipes in the foot of Svampen.
Every night, Svampen is filled with water so that it will be enough when the citizens wake up and shower, eat breakfast, go to the bathroom and brush their teeth. During the day, the tower is emptied of a lot of water and then refilled in the afternoon and evening. Everyone must have water when they come home from school and work and have to cook, wash dishes and do their laundries.
However, a new water reservoir is scheduled to be fully operational in spring 2023. Then Svampen will no longer be used as a water tower, but will still be a place for tourism.
