Secondary: Bring me back to North Carolina when my adventures are complete.
Stop #3: Alexandroupolis, Greece. Stuck close to downtown on this port call, enjoyed a number of local restaurants. Had a great time exploring main street at night. Did sneak away to Makri, got hot dogs and photos before driving back to our resort in the city. Stopped near Potamos Castle for a few pics.
Stop #4: Izmir, Turkey. Spent several days exploring the old bazaar, Asansor elevator, and the ancient agora. Toured my first mosque, which was an awesome experience. Saw Top Gun: Maverick and enjoyed (too many) drinks at Konak pier.
The Liberty Call series of trackables were placed across Europe during the 22nd MEU’s 2022 deployment aboard the USS Arlington. Stops included Iceland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, Croatia, Sweden, and Finland. Our operational itinerary did not permit geocaching in every country, but I dropped as many TB’s as possible. Keep ‘em moving!
The 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (22nd MEU) is one of seven such units currently in existence in the United States Marine Corps. It is a Marine Air Ground Task Force with a strength of about 2,200 personnel. They are currently based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and fall under the command of the II Marine Expeditionary Force. It is the most decorated of the U.S. Marine Corps' seven MEUs.[1]
