Had to do some trailblazing to find the cache but the views of Kaneohe Bay and the Koolau Ridge mountains were spectacular as I hiked through the lush jungle. The Koolau Ridge mountains are what's left of one of the two extinct shield volcanoes that makes up most of the mountains on the island of Oahu. Another beautiful day in the islands, sunny and warm with a nice tradewind breeze keeping the humidity down. This was a new trail system for me and I really enjoyed the views. I was sad to see that there was a lot of feral pig activity along the trail. Feral pigs are dangerous to encounter on the trail and they are really bad for the rainforest. “To the Hawaiian rainforest, the pig is death: consuming ground-cover plants, churning the rich ground into foul muck, the forest dies from the bottom upward and the rains wash the soil away to smother coral reefs with silt.” From Hawai‘i: The Islands of Life, by Gavan Daws.

Just a little further down the Aiea Loop Trail. Today it stopped by - Geocache (GC23) A cache by Tim Billings Hidden: 7/21/2000. This is the oldest cache in the state, the 23rd cache ever placed in the world (there are now over half a million) and It appears to be the 8th oldest still active cache in the world. This is my 300th Cache Find.
