Another beautiful day in the islands, sunny and warm with a nice tradewind breeze keeping the humidity down. This was a new trail system for me and I really enjoyed the views. I was sad to see that there was a lot of feral pig activity along the trail. Feral pigs are dangerous to encounter on the trail and they are really bad for the rainforest. “To the Hawaiian rainforest, the pig is death: consuming ground-cover plants, churning the rich ground into foul muck, the forest dies from the bottom upward and the rains wash the soil away to smother coral reefs with silt.” From Hawai‘i: The Islands of Life, by Gavan Daws.
