China gilt als Ursprungsland der Glocken. Der chinesische Philosoph Lü Buwei (um 291 – um 235 v. Chr.) erwähnt in seinem Buch Lüshi chunqiu („Frühling und Herbst des Lü Buwei“), der mythische Huangdi (Gelber Kaiser) habe Mitte des 3. Jahrtausends v. Chr. befohlen, „zwölf Glocken zu gießen, die die harmonischen fünf Töne der Tonleiter ergeben, um eine herrliche Musik aufzuführen. Im mittleren Frühlingsmonat am Tage I Mao, als die Sonne im Zeichen Kui stand, wurde sie zum erstenmal aufgeführt und erhielt den Namen Hiän Tsi.“
China is considered the country of origin of bells. The Chinese philosopher Lü Buwei (c. 291 - c. 235 BC) mentions in his book Lüshi chunqiu ("Spring and Autumn of Lü Buwei") that in the middle of the 3rd millennium BC, the mythical Huangdi (Yellow Emperor) ordered "twelve bells to be cast to make the harmonic five notes of the scale in order to perform a magnificent music. In the middle month of spring on the day I Mao, when the sun was in the sign of Kui, it was performed for the first time and given the name Hiän Tsi."
