Move from cache to cache finding old geocaches where possible
A gift from my friend Liz!
On May 3, 2000, a five-gallon bucket was placed by Dave Ulmer. In the bucket Dave placed a Delorme Topo USA, 2 CD Roms, a cassette recorder, a "George of the Jungle" VHS tape, a Ross Perot book, four $1 bills, a slingshot handle and the now notorious, original can of beans. The coordinates were then listed on the internet and modern-day geocaching was born. The first one to find the cache was Mike Teague who took the money and left some cigarettes, a cassette tape and a pen. Alas, that original bucket was severely damaged by an Oregon road crew mower and no longer exists. But this one is fun.
Note: I keep 1 of each kind of tag or coin in my personal inventory for discovering at events and send out a proxy tag to move from cache to cache, so you will see logs of both discovery and tracking movement on this trackable.

While attending this morning's 4 Reasons to Visit Sir Crabby on New Years Day event in Leesburg (VA), I discovered a bunch of really fun trackables, TBs, geocoins and cache-mobiles. It's nice discovering all these trackables at once at Discover trackables!! 😁 Thanks to all for sharing!!

I had no idea this was a cemetery when I chose my destination today, only that it was near the Delta County airport in Escanaba. The doll’s arm is a bit creepy, but otherwise this seems like a peaceful place with even more room than your Aloha suite! You may even get the chance to see the Northern Lights from here. Best wishes on your next adventure! :-)

Next up was Wells. We were several blocks away when my daughter spotted the township’s smiling water tower, so we knew we were close. This one was another easy find. Noticed the building next door is in pretty rough shape and later learned they had a fire there last month.

We headed a few miles southwest along the coast to a park in Gladstone with a great view of the sunset. The kids sprinted straight to the playground while I checked out the cache and snapped a few photos. I found the hiding spot quickly, but had to climb the tree to reach the container! Took a few more pics until my fingers froze, and eventually managed to convince the kids it was time to go. We’ll be back!

My daughters suggested a road trip today, and I knew we couldn’t go wrong with a destination near Culver’s or a playground. These can be few and far between in some parts of the U.P., so we settled on Lake Michigan, and this cache in Rapid River was our first stop. I’ve noticed this attraction from the road many times but had never pulled over to explore it. In addition to the crane, dog and mosquito sculptures, we saw a live young buck crossing the road. Fun!

Stopped by the Silver Creek Recreation Area in Chocolay Township. Found the cache quickly and stayed around for a bit to watch the sunset and admire a few red oaks hanging onto their leaves.

Enticed my kids away from the playground for a brief walk down one of the Shiras Park trails. The trees are mostly bare, which made this cache fairly easy to find. Paused for a group photo on our way back.
