The 2020 Geocaching NSW geocoin is a beautiful custom design, a NSW shaped coin with the association's logo and mint year on the front.
The reverse features our tribute to the members of the remote communities who suffered so greatly during the 2019-2020 bushfire season.
The design not only reflects upon the incredibly tough times these regional communities went through (and are still going through), but also that one of our "20th anniversary of Geocaching" celebratory events was shelved as a result of the fires. The plan was to take our yearly Expedition all the way to the top—a walk to Mount Kosciuszko. But even when the threat of fire diminished, by the time our event date was coming around, the environment wasn't ready for travellers.
Our heroic firefighting koala image helps us to remember that not only did the people go through difficult times, but so did the animals and their habitats.
