What is Caledonian Cachefest?
The Caledonian Cachefest is a weekend long celebration of geocaching in Scotland. The first event was held in 2017 in Peebles and was a huge success. The plan was to hold the event every two years but as the UK Mega was being held in Aberdeenshire in 2019 it was decided not to clash with this event and to hold the 2nd Cachefest in 2020. Unfortunately Covid-19 came along and, like just about everything else, the event had to be cancelled.
Jump forward to 2022 and a group of plucky geocachers got together to relaunch the Cachefest and we are now well into planning the weekend.
Where will the 2024 event be held?
The 2024 event will be held in Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway. Just off the M74, about 40 miles north of the border with England, we felt this was an ideal place to restart the event. If successful we will hopefully be bringing back the two year format and hosting the event again in 2026 in another part of Scotland.
What can I expect?
A 3 day geocaching festival with many new geocaches being hidden across the area. There will be side events on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the main event being held on the Saturday.
The easiest way to think of the Cachefest is as an event inbetween your normal event and a Mega. It will have the community aspects of a regular geocaching event and the fun of a Mega. At the main event we hope to have geocaching retailers, local information/ charities, games to play and more. However, at all times the emphasis is that attendees will be able to find new geocaches and explore the area.

What is the cost of attending?
The event and side events will be free to attend. The only costs to you will be travel, accomodation and food. We are currently working with a campsite in Moffat to be the main base for those staying and will also be working with hotels, B&B and self catering owners to bring a wide range of options.
Can I help out / Volunteer?

The biggest way you can help is by financial assistance. We need to raise a lot of money to host the event and so by buying items from our shop you will be helping immensely. If you wish to make a donation to the event, this can be done via our shop and is hugely appreciated.
