Current Goal

This trackable has the goal to survive at least five years and be dropped by at least 25 cachers. I maintain records on all my trackables. As of 17-Aug-26 this trackable has survived for 1.6 years and had been moved by 4 cachers, for an average drop every 144 days, or 2.5 drops per year. Please keep it moving, then drop it in a safe place!

No permission is needed to leave the U.S. While in the U.S., please drop it at an event, in a Premium Member only OR a rural cache near a busy trail or road. Do not place it in an urban, non-premium cache. Transport the bug in the original plastic bag for as long as the bag lasts; the bag keeps the trackable clean and dry, protects the number and prevents tangling with other items. Otherwise, take the trackable anywhere you wish.

About This Item

Key Islands are small islands on active or ancient coral reefs. The term is usually applied to such islands around Florida and the Caribbean. This is to distinguish them from other Caribbean islands of other origins like tectonic forces, barrier islands and volcanic activity. This distinction is lost on travel promoters who use the more romantic term for any island having sandy beaches coral reefs and clear water.

The Florida Keys are a string of key islands stretching about 120 miles off the southern tip of the U.S. state of Florida, between the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. Other key islands in the region include the 10,000 Islands off the southwest coast of Florida and the Dry Tortugas west of Key West. However, each key in this series of trackables is named for one of the Florida Keys over which Highway 1 passes to the terminus on Key West.
