About This Item

USS Massachusetts bullet

I began my Webelos I year of Cub Scouts a month before this TB was released. One of our July activities was to camp overnight on the USS Massachusetts, a battleship. I explored the USS Lionfish, a submarine, USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., a destroyer, a couple of PT boats, a landing craft, and the Hiddensee, a Soviet-built Tarantul I class missile corvette, from the East German People’s Navy. Each of these ships displayed many historical facts and memorabilia. I climbed all around and in and out of these ships. I even learned some Morse code. It was a BLAST!

I also attended two war re-enactments last year - the Revolutionary War at Fort Ticonderoga as a day visit and the Civil War in Tunbridge as an overnight camping experience. They both offered many hands-on learning opportunities for everyone in the group including marching in formation and playing games of the times. A WHOLE LOT MORE FUN THAN THOSE STUFFY HISTORY BOOKS!!!

  • Eternal flame At one second past midnight on January 1, 1967, Lester B. Pearson launched Canada's 100th anniversary celebrations by lighting the Centennial Flame for the first time. Surrounded by the shields of the Canadian provinces and territories, and joined by the water of the fountain, the Centennial Flame symbolizes Canada's unity from sea to sea.
