Current Goal

My little halibut launched from Seattle and wants very much to travel to the Alaska coastline. He hopes to get as far as Kodiak and then return to Seattle for a new mission.

About This Item

This halibut is made by a Pacific Northwest artist named Daniel Leen. He describes his halibut as follows: "This design is based on a Tsimshian appliqu ceremonial vestment collected at Port Simpson, British Columbia by James Swan seomtime before 1888. I had to find an illustration of a halibut as seen by marine biologists to add the fins missing from the original design. My carvings were executed in deer bone."

I myself am a halibut biologist and, as the saying goes, I launched my own travel bug just "for the halibut"

Not sure how he did it, but the Halibut made it from Scullduggery II (east end of Comanche Res.) to Salmon Run (stream below the west end of the lake) on his/her own. Picked him up today while caching with Sam-o and KTBug. His chain has rusted through so we'll replace it and try to get him in a cache this weekend and send him along. Obviously has a poor sense of direction if he left Washington State heading for Alaska and is in Ione CA. Our first travel bug. Sam-o was quite excited.
