Off to an event in London at the Oscar Wilde statue near Trafalgar Square. A storm came through west London and knocked out the signals on the District Line so I had to change to a longer way home. 🚦

The London cachers returned to Cambridgeshire to find the other half of the Moggy geoart. This time we started from the village of Guilden Morden. The area has been occupied for at least 2000 years and an axehead dating from 6000 BC has been found in the parish. A significant cemetery dating from Roman times has also been found in the south of the parish, containing at least 180 burials and indicating an important nearby settlement. 🐈⬛

Another wet day in London. At least there was a new Wherigo close to the event for Goldpot’s birthday celebrations. Back Station has repeatedly been voted the most hated station amongst Londoners. It’s the deepest station below street level, it has too many exits, and somehow you always find yourself ending up at its interlinked station Monument – miles from where you need to be. 🎂

Wombatwandering took it to Marc Bolan's Rock Shrine

A long walk for you today from Hammersmith to Roehampton. Along the way, we passed the shrine to Marc Bolan in Barnes where he died in a car crash in 1977, two weeks short of his 30th birthday. He rose to fame in the late 60s as the founder and leader of the psychedelic folk band Tyrannosaurus Rex and is credited with pioneering the glam rock movement following an appearance on the BBC's music show Top of the Pops wearing glitter on his face. Bolan strongly influenced artists of many genres, including glam rock, punk, post-punk, new wave, indie rock, Britpop and alternative rock. Bolan never learned to drive, fearing a premature death and that he would die before he was 30 years old. 👨🏻🎤

A rainy day but I need an event so we took an incredibly slow bus to Kingston-upon-Thames, south west London. Kingston lay on the boundary between the ancient kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia, until in the early tenth century when King Athelstan united both to create the kingdom of England. Seven Saxon kings were crowned in Kingston or, as it was once known, King’s Tun, meaning royal farm or estate. 👑

Can’t give too much away here except that you had a visit to Middlesex, a historic county in England that has now been mostly subsumed into Greater London. Middlesex county's name derives from its origin as a homeland for the Middle Saxon people in the early Middle Ages. It was formed in either the ninth or tenth century and remained an administrative unit until 1965. The county was the second smallest of the historic counties of England after Rutland. 🪓

You are living with me in Hammersmith at the moment so we endured the trip over the Thames for an event in Roehampton to the south. In the past, that would be a fairly easy thing to do but Hammersmith Bridge is closed to traffic because of cracks in the cask iron frame. The bridge belongs to Hammersmith Council but Hammersmith residents are already on the side of the river with the tube into central London so Hammersmith doesn’t want to foot the bill. The council on the other side don’t want to contribute because it’s not their bridge even though they are the ones who need the bridge to get to London. So we are at an impasse! 🌉

You went for a stroll between Falconwood and Sidcup, south east London. My route took me through Avery Hill Park. It used to be a grand Manor House but that building was converted into the University of Greenwhich and lately has turned into a school. CuteOtter used to do some X-country runs in the park. 🏃🏽♀️
