Let us this tiny Travel Bug “CLOUDBERRY” go to visit its Canadian cousins and return to Northern Finland with fruitful travel stories with pictures and GPS coordinates of best places to find cloudberries. Her journey starts at the best cloudberry season of Oulu province.
The cloudberry, sub-Arctic amber-colored edible fruit occurs naturally throughout the Northern Hemisphere from 78°N to 55°N. Cloudberries grow wild mainly in the Nordic countries and in North America in bogs and marshes .The ripe fruits are golden-yellow, soft and juicy and rich in vitamin C. In Finland the berries are eaten with a local cheese "leipäjuusto" and much sugar. In Canada, cloudberries are used for jam and to flavour a special beer. Tea made from cloudberry leaves was used in ancient Scandinavian herbal medicine to cure urinary tract infections.
