Current Goal

To travel from cache to cache so people can see wood from a tree that is almost gone.

About This Item

TB has a piece of American Chestnut wood attached to it. This rot resistant wood was once one of the most common trees in the Eastern U.S. It was used for fence posts, railroad ties, building materials and furniture. The wood looks a lot like Oak but has a mellow reddish brown color. It was almost destroyed by blight in the early 1900's and ceased to be available as commercial lumber by about 1920.

Wow. This little travel bug tells an interesting story. I shall move it along quickly. I couldn't believe it when I noticed that it was in this particular cache, especially since the cache was a micro. Was surprised to see it in there.
