Another day and another couple of miles. :)

Many stops and the pictures tell the story.

Will continue moving soon!

  • Making the turn to the southwest Picking up where I left off, we continue the trip at the corner of Jackson Blvd and Ogden Ave..
  • Car eating pothole! This was right at the corner of Jackson and Ogden. It was about a foot deep and 3 feet long.

It has been a long and brutal winter!
  • Cook County Hospital This is the hospital that St Elsewhere was based on.
  • Another sign along the way Slight job on Ogden Ave.
  • Douglas Park in Chicago Another spot mentioned on some Route 66 websites.
  • Castle Car Wash You learn something new every day!

This location was so cool I just had to place a cache here. :)
  • Railroad Turntable and Roundhouse While not an official Route 66 stop it is a very cool place. Out of the era when Route 66 was in use.
  • Former Western Electric Hawthorne Works plant All that is left is the tower. Not on Route 66 but mentioned and visible from The Road.
  • Cindy Lyn Motel Need a place to sleep? Not that we have traveled all that far so far. :)
  • Steak 'N Egger Diner Another 'Not on the Landmark' list but it should be. :) Old school charm!
  • Mr Taco Another NOTLL :) But I love their taco's so much I have a cache here.

A full piece of flank steak the size of the tortilla griddled perfectly. Mmmmm!
  • Henry's Drive In Finally! Back on the Landmark List. :) A true classic!
  • Henry's Drive In Sign Notice the fries on the hot dog? That is how they serve it and it works well and tastes great!
  • Some stuff inside Pictures from the 50's
  • Hot Dog, Fries and a Tamale Good time as any to grab a bite. I had heard they had a brown gravy to put on the fries so I had them on the side but all they had was Italian Beef juice. Wah! Also the tamale is called a corn roll.
  • Robin Hood Mufflers Always thought of bringing my cars here but never did.
  • Robin Hood Mufflers Sign
  • Bunyon's Hot Dogs (closed) Now it is just another taco stand.

This was the site of one of the muffler men, holding a giant hot dog. The muffler man is now relocated to Atlanta, IL on Route 66 since 2003 after being in Cicero since 1963.
  • Route 66 Beverage Another spot mentioned.
  • Route 66 Beverage Mural Not too bad at all!
  • White Castle Restaurant Another spot mentioned.

A local favorite but not liked by all. Last stop of the day.
  • White Castle Burgers Small. An average person can down one in three bites so I usually will order 6 or 8. I had already grabbed a bite at Henry's so I only got three. :)
  • Steam Grilled Like I mentioned not everyone enjoys the steam grilled burgers. I Love 'em. :) Once had a White Castle eating contest and I ate 22 (I was in my 20's).
  • Time to head south for a bit Route 66 turns south on Harlem Ave (route 43) for a short distance and then back SW on Joliet Rd
  • Another Route 66 Sign
