About This Item

9th Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne)

The 9th Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne) is a Tactical Support Battaltion, and a subordinate unit of the 4th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne).

Tactical PSYOP is that associated with "face-to- face" operations in support of maneuver units within the theater and is conducted by the Corps PSYOP Support Element (CPSE), Division PSYOP Support Element (DPSE), Brigade PSYOP Support Elements (BPSE) and by Tactical PSYOP Teams (TPTs). These elements enable tactical commanders to communicate directly with the enemy and foreign civilians.

Tactical PSYOP elements disseminate products normally developed by the regional battalions or by the Psychological Operation Task Force (POTF). The 9th POB has worldwide responsibility for all tactical assets including loudspeakers, helicopters and vehicles.

The 9th POB was in its origins a Loudspeaker and Leaflet Company which activated in the Panama Canal Zone.

Travel Bug History

Well, after three years, this bug finally made it to the first stop in its journey. The mission has been revised to show its current stop. For historical purposes, here are the significant dates and points:

  1. August 15, 2004 - Released in Fayetteville, NC
  2. September 22, 2007 - Reached the first goal: New Concord, Ohio (by way of Australia!)

      Found this while caching with POMC today. Strange log on this one, before us...and it wasn't logged into THIS cache, but...we found it here. I am taking it to Indiana, in hopes of FINALLY getting it to it's goal. While I can't take it exactly where it wants to go, I can get it much closer!
