Current Goal

Ever need a can opener but couldn't find one? Here is a dandy little gadget that no well equipped military person would be without, at least when I was in the service. It's mission is to locate as many of its siblings as possible (other P-38's that is). Just add them on to the chain and post a picture on its travel bug page.

About This Item

Dscf0090.jpg

The P-38 military issue can opener was developed in the summer of 1942 to open C-Ration cans. The P stands for Puncture - 38 is how many times it took to go around the "John Wayne Candybar Can" and the hole in the top of the P-38 was used to dip it in boiling water to clean after use.

I was with Eats Crow when he found this at the night cache. I let him claim the TB since this was his first time at the cache. Nice little TB and brings back memories of using one of these.

I did the "MHCA step 5" cache tonight, as must be done at night, and I picked up this travel bug in it. I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, and I do have a couple of P-38 can openers there, that are remnants from my days in the army when I was in Vietnam, but I plan on moving this bug along before I go home.
