Once a Jeep Owner, Always a Jeep Owner:
I bought my first Jeep while I served in the US Marine Corps in North Carolina. The 1981 CJ-7 handled everything I threw at it, including beach runs, tank trails and a cross-country drive to SoCal - topless!
My second Jeep was a yellow '83 CJ-7 I purchased in Oregon. Shortly after that, my new wife and I took a cross-country trip on our move to Pennsylvania, this time with the soft top on. I wanted more power for the steep hills near my home there, so in went a Chevy 350. Of course, that led to more modifications, none of which included drivetrain upgrades, because the stock running gear took the V8 power just fine.
I envisioned many years of fun with my wife and kids in Jeeps, but alas, it hasn't taken place. The yellow Jeep was sold at the first news of our newborn girl, never to be replaced with another Jeep, at least so far. Now with two young kids who would enjoy a Jeep as much as daddy, I long for a new Wrangler, especially one of the Unlimiteds!
When the coil-spring Wrangler was introduced in '97 I shrieked along with many other Jeep people, Then I drove one on- and off-road and became a believer. For a family man like me, an Unlimited Rubicon would be the absolute ultimate vehicle. Then again, any Wrangler would be the ultimate vehicle for me.
Sorry for the wet shoulder, and thanks for listening!
