It all began on November 9, my husband Dennis' birthday. Having been a letterboxer for awhile, I figured he was ready for the next big step and bought him a GPS. A whole new, adventurous world was revealed. We could take our Jeep and seek out the hidden treasures left by distant travelers and experience nature in it's most rugged form.
Today he decided it was time to locate the Holy Grail of cachers, a Jeep Travel Bug. I decided to tag along, always happy to get outdoors and live out my archeologist fantasies. We arrived at the start of our destination, a hill so steep even the most testosterone-laden mountain goat would quiver at the thought of climbing it, and began our hike. Breathlessly, I dragged my body uphill as my husband practically skipped towards the summit. He's obviously "trail rated" too! Happily, he pointed out a deer quietly grazing to my right. That's neat, I thought. It looked at me. "Honey, do deer snicker?",I asked.
Onward we trekked, staring at the GPS as if our very lives depended on it. Finally, an instrument that accurately answers in detail the age-old question, "Are we there yet?!"
Wading through the damp fallen leaves, we narrowed the location down to a craggy rock, my husband had found his goal! "You need to search where something looks like it doesn't fit in ", he said. If that's the case, search under me. I probably don't look like I belong here either, I mused. We read the notes left by others and my husband got his Jeep Travel Bug! In spite of my heaving lungs and twitching muscles, I smiled and thought of the next big find. There will be other challenging journeys to make, made easier only in a Jeep...
