The Sentier de Grande Randonée GR1 NC, or the Great Trekking Trail, is a (at present) seven stage hike across the lower half of New Caledonia. It begins at the abandoned forced labor mining town of Prony and proceeds north and west to end at the newer dam of Dumbea. You can read about the entire GR1, in English or French, right here.
Over the course of a few months, my daughter and I hiked the full length of the GR1; this was the final leg we completed. The others in the series are these:

A couple of months before we started, we placed a cache to mark the start of the GR1: Au debut de GR1., so it can also be considered part of the series.
This stage is approximately 22 km long from official start to official end, but it is possible (and what we did) to not hike the first 7 km or so and instead start out athe Pont Perignon, where you can park your car (located here). Then, the hike is a (relative to the other stages) easy day hike of 14 km mostly along a flat red earth road. This particular stage is actually an abbreviated version of Stages 4 and 5 but as we were pressed for time, before my daughter leaves New Caledonia, we opted to do this intermediate stage, which does accomplish the task of filling in the missing segment of the GR1 that we needed to complete the quest. This particular geocache is placed near one of the largest and oldest Kaori pine trees remaining in New Caledonia - it is estimated to be over 1000 years old.

Un couple de mois avant que nous commencions, nous a placé un cache pour marquer le début de la GR1: Au debut de GR1., il peut également être considéré comme faisant partie de la série.
Cette étape est d'environ 22 km de long du début officiel de fin officielle, mais il est possible (et ce que nous avons fait) de ne pas la randonnée du 7 premiers kilomètres et la place commencer athe Pont Perignon, où vous pouvez garer votre voiture (situé ici ). Ensuite, la randonnée est une (par rapport aux autres étapes) facile journée de randonnée de 14 km principalement le long d'une route plate de terre rouge. Cette étape particulière est en fait une version abrégée des étapes 4 et 5 mais comme nous étions pressés par le temps, avant que ma fille quitte Nouvelle-Calédonie, nous avons opté pour faire de cette étape intermédiaire, qui fait accomplir la tâche de remplir le segment manquant de l'GR1 que nous avions besoin pour terminer la quête. Cette géocache particulier est placé près de l'une des plus grandes et des plus anciennes Kaori pins restants en Nouvelle-Calédonie - il est estimé à plus de 1000 ans.
