Caching
Caching has always been a favoured event amongst the Rangers of the
Wayward Wanderers of Melderyn. It was a means of practicing
tracking techniques and testing novice Rangers. Clues would be
given and individuals would head out and find the cache. Often a
cache would be placed and several Rangers would attempt to be the
first to find the cache. This tradition has been passed down to
present day. Often no clues would be given for the cache and that
fact would be indicated by the symbol below.
This symbol eventually became the universal representation for zero
or nothing. It has been proven beyond doubt that the original
concept of zero and this symbol can be attributed to the Wayward
Wanderers of Melderyn. Many millennia later various societies
claimed the invention of zero, but we all know its origin lies with
the Wanderers. The harder the cache was to find the more symbols
were used to indicate how hard the cache was. The symbol grading
was 1 – 5 symbols, much like the present grading of caches by
geocachers today. A large caching event was held every year in the
huge forest of Ol – im – pus, where thousands of
cachers looked for hidden caches. It was a huge event with bragging
rights to the country whose cachers found the most caches, the
quickest find, most complex, etc. The tradition carried on and
expanded to many other events, with the Greeks even naming a
mountain after the famous forest. Caching with the Wayward
Wanderers was the inspiration for the modern day Olympics and its
symbol, the 5 rings, which are colored the same as the changing
leaves of the Ol – im – pus Forest.

The Wayward Wanderers were a group of Rangers from a bygone
Dungeons and Dragons era. Coming from the Kingdom of Melderyn, near
the Never Ending Forest, in the mystical Land of Noth, they used
their skills in tracking and living off the land to quest by
themselves or to help others find gold, gems and other treasures,
much like the modern day cacher of today. Their free spirit and
inquisitive minds allowed them to develop many of today’s
modern ideas and conveniences. A little sneaky at times, they have
left several puzzle caches for the modern day cacher to
enjoy.
