Geocache Description:

This cache and others in the area have been set up by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority with kind permission of The National Trust who own this land.

You can enjoy either two shorter circular walks, or a longer one of approximately 10 miles through the spectacular limestone scenery of the Malham area finding these caches along the way. Most of the caches contain the usual items PLUS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION so that you can find out more about the geology of this interesting and beautiful area.

Recommended starting point is Malham National Park Centre. Climb up the steps beside Malham Cove and cross the spectacular limestone pavement at the top. The cache site is at Raven Scar, which is the start of the route up the stunning Watlowes Dry Valley.

NOTE: The cache is located on the north side of the wall. To cross the wall please use the stile at N54°04.463 W002°09.557 (SD89765 64285)

On a recent check of the cache, we discovered that there is a great deal of litter around the cache location, on top of Malham Cove between the grikes - two full bin bags of litter were collected! It would be fantastic if while in the area you could 'Cache In, Trash Out' to help keep this beautiful location looking beautiful.

The scenery around Malham is dominated by Great Scar limestone. Features of interest along the route include Malham Cove, areas of limestone pavement and Watlowes Dry Valley. Additional information about these is given in the caches, but you can find out more about the geology of the Yorkshire Dales before starting your search by visiting the Timelines/Geology area of our archaeology website www.outofoblivion.org.uk

There is a regular bus service to Malham and a large National Park car park (charge).
