You can enjoy either two shorter circular walks, or a longer one of approximately 10 miles through the spectacular limestone scenery of the Malham area finding these caches along the way. Most of the caches contain the usual items PLUS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION so that you can find out more about the geology of this interesting and beautiful area.
Following Monk’s Road path up onto Back Pasture the cache site is set among an extensive area of impressive limestone pavement and scar scenery.
The surface landforms in the Malhamdale area which have formed on the outcrops of Great Scar Limestone are technically known as Karst. The most distinctive of which are the areas of limestone pavement.
Further information on these features can be found in the cache, but if you would like to find out more about the geology of the Yorkshire Dales before starting your search, visit the Timelines/Geology area of our archaeology website www.outofoblivion.org.uk
This cache contains the second part of the coordinates for the Plantation cache.
When looking for this cache, do not attempt to follow the direct GPS route from Great Close, as this will lead you to an unscalable crag and dry stone wall! Instead follow Monk's Road to a ladder style at N 54º06.343 W 002º08.615.
After visiting the cache you can either retrace your steps or loop round to the north of Back Pasture Hill via N 54°06.601 W 002°08.820 (SD 90487 68249) to Middle House.
