Insidious IV - Return of the Red Herring Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

emmett: It is time to finish with archiving my caches. I understand some may be interested in completing this series. The containers are still out there as far as I know so you can still log finds but I will not be doing any maintenance. I don’t want them listed on GC.com any longer and will not be working on any of them unless and until I have the time to modify and publish these as new caches on another site.

Geocache Description:

The Insidious series has been created to provide a variety of tough tests, especially suited for those who prefer more of a challenge. For those not inclined to tackle this series at maximum difficulty, an alternate, easier means of conquering the Insidious collection is available by acquiring the "hidden secrets" available at Insidous VI. Return of the Red Herring

Insidious: awaiting a chance to entrap; treacherous.

Red Herring: a diversion intended to distract attention from the real issue.

The posted coordinates above will take you to the trailhead and parking on Edmunds Road for the south section of Callahan State Park. The hike itself will be short, 30-40 minutes or so. However, the time it will take to log a find is not likely to be very short.

From the parking lot, head SW to the Pioneer Trail, then navigate to: N 42 19.574, W 71 28.509, where you will search for a small container at the base of a fallen tree. The container marks ground zero in your search for a micro that provides coordinates for Stage Two. You need search no more than a thirty foot radius from ground zero.

Originally, there were two micros, numbered one and two. Micro number one posed ongoing maintenance problems and is no longer in play.

The Stage One container includes a logbook and pens. You are invited to sign the log, but this is only the start and does not qualify as a find. Unfortunately for some, the start will be the end and this will be the only log you'll get a chance to write on.

The good news is you will certainly find something in your search for the micro, but this fact should provided no comfort unless Red Herrings are your cup of tea.

Please exercise caution as you search. Unnecessary destruction of the ground zero area by prior visitors has compromised the setup of some micros and/or Red Herrings. If you feel the need to move something, please do so carefully and then replace it as you found it.

If you are fortunate enough to conquer Stage One, you may encounter reception problems at Stage Two. To minimize GPS error, I advise that you focus only on likely suspects and search for either of two push pins that I have placed in plain view, within 25 feet of the cache.

Note - Pictures of both micro hides from the original Insidious IV setup have been incorporated into the Insidous VI - Hidden Secrets clue sheet. Since micro number one is no longer in play, I have provided a description of that hide inside one of the Red Herring containers. The description should be sufficient to help you identify the correct corresponding picture should you be interested in completing the task required to find the Insidous VI cache.
