Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Fairfield County History Geo Trail - Our trail will take you all over Fairfield County to many of our small historic towns that make up this great county. We hope you have fun and experience all our county has to offer.

From 1832-1913, Lockville was the site of seven locks along the Ohio-Erie Canal. Today, the Lockville Canal Park contains three sets of intact locks, including towpath, berm and prism (also known as a basin). Visitors to the Park can readily see the masonry of locks 11, 12 and 13.
In addition to the locks, visitors will also see the Hartman Covered Bridge which was built in 1888 by Jacob “Blue Jeans” Brandt. In 1967, the Hartman Covered Bridge was moved to the Lockville Park from its original location over Raccoon Creek near Wheeling Road. The 50-foot bridge features queen post trusses and is one of the 18 covered bridges still existent in Fairfield County.
