Insidious V - Your Doom Awaits Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

MadMin: I attempted to contact the owner of Insidious V - Your Doom Awaits to find out about the status of this cache on August 31, 2009. I have received no response from the owner on the cache page or via email. Because of that I'm afraid I have to archive this cache.

I will be more than happy to review this cache again and (hopefully) reinstate it once you have corrected any issues with the cache. please contact me via ma.reviewer@gmail.com to do so.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page places it through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

The Insidious series has been created to provide a variety of tough tests, especially suited for those who prefer more of a challenge. For those not inclined to tackle this series at maximum difficulty, an alternate, easier means of conquering the Insidious collection is available by acquiring the "hidden secrets" available at Insidous VI. Your Doom Awaits

This cache is a fitting tribute to the I-seeker, a worthy reward for completing the Insidious series, the most strenuous of geocaching challenges. The series includes a basic education comprised of four fields of study (I-1, I-2, I-3 and I-4); a graduation reward (I-5); and a special bonus cache (I-6).

Those who have not completed their basic I-education are welcome to join this hunt, but the cache owner strongly recommends a full reading of the disclaimer below.

Insidious: awaiting a chance to entrap; treacherous.

Doom: ruin, to make certain the failure of.

This Insidious "graduation reward" has been set up in Mello Farm/Cider Knoll, a recently expanded yet little known conservation area in Marlborough. This is a really nice area with a wide mix of vegetation, a sizeable pond and an active stream. The hunt has been planned in such a way so that you will get to tour the whole area. The total walking time around the trail system is about an hour.

The coordinates provided above are for the parking lot on Stow Road where you should begin your search. There are other places to park to access this conservation area but these will not work as well, given the way this hunt has been set up.

The trailhead leaves the parking lot, just left of the kiosk. From there, proceed to the coordinates provided at the bottom of this page. At each of these four stages, you'll be searching for micros that will provide the information you will need to determine the location of the final cache (Stage Five), an average sized plastic container.

S-1 will take you in the vicinity of a fallen tree
S-2 is near a ledge
S-3 will take you near a fallen tree
S-4 is close to three white trees
S-5 has been placed in a somewhat obvious area

You should have a pen and paper handy to record this information along the way. I have provided a container near the Stage One micro with worksheets, maps, and extra pens. Take what you need for the hunt. If you take a pen, please return it on your way back to the parking lot.

The Stage Five cache is located at:

North – 42 22.xxx West – 71 30.yyy

xxx = A+C+E+G+J
yyy = B+D+F+H+K

At stages one thru four you will be given two numbers each, a total of eight numbers. Order these numbers from lowest to highest (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H) with “A” as the lowest number, “H” as the highest.

J = (-3)
K = 44

The trail map is available online at the link below. It might be a good idea to print one up and bring it with you in case the Stage One container goes missing or runs out of maps. (visit link)

You will need to cross the stream on the way from Stage One to Stage Two. There is no bridge here but there are at least two places where you can safely cross and pick up the trail after you climb the hill on the other side of the stream. It is my understanding there is a plan to eventually build a bridge to connect these two trails. For the time being, you will need to improvise.

Special Instructions: If you are an I-grad, you should not spend more than 15 minutes looking for any stage. If you get stumped in one spot, it will be best to move on to subsequent stages. If you seek this cache without having completed your Insidous education first, this hunt will be most challenging. Plan your time so you get to visit all stages before you leave. If a return trip is required, it might take less time to access the stage or stages you missed by using alternate parking.

Disclaimer: The degree of difficulty of this hunt will vary depending upon your experience. Those who have completed the first four Insidious caches should be sufficiently battle tested and able to complete I-5 without too much difficulty. On the other hand, you could try I-5 without completing your Insidious education first, and one would certainly admire your courage for doing so, but be forewarned, your doom awaits!

Note: The snow friendly icon is valid for graduates of Insidious University who are capable of applying their I-knowledge to the task at hand. Insidious V may not be snow friendly for some undergrads and I-drop outs. Those who are completely un-I-nitiated will certainly find the snow problematic.
