WASMISS AT SIXTY

This series of caches has been placed to celebrate Wasmiss reaching the milestone age of sixty. Each traditional cache celebrates a decade in her life. By collecting the codes at the top of each of the six logsheets, you’ll be able to find the Bonus cache for the series.

The first six caches are being published on the last day of Wasmiss’s fifties, whilst the bonus will only be published on the first day of her sixties.

1954 - First nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Nautilus, is launched.
- Bill Haley & His Comets record "Rock Around The Clock" starting Rock and Roll.
- Roger Bannister runs the first sub-four minute mile.
- West Germany beats Hungary 3–2 to win the 1954 FIFA World Cup.
1955 - Winston Churchill resigns as Prime Minister due to ill-health.
- Cardiff is announced as the capital city of the principality of Wales.
- Ruth Ellis is the last woman in the UK to be hanged for murder.
- The Vietnam War begins between the South & North Vietnam Armies.
1956 - Elvis Presley enters the US charts for the first time, with "Heartbreak Hotel."
- Summer Olympics in Melbourne and Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
- Jim Laker takes a record 19 test wickets in a match for England against Australia.
- The Bell X-2 becomes the first manned aircraft to reach Mach 3.
1957 - Harold Macmillan becomes the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
- The Cavern Club opens.. John Lennon & Paul McCartney meet for the first time.
- Patrick Moore presents the first episode of The Sky at Night,
- The Soviet Union launches Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite to orbit the earth.
1958 - Seven Manchester Utd players are killed in the Munich air disaster.
- Brazil beats Sweden 5–2 to win the 1958 football World Cup final.
- Elizabeth II gives her son, Prince Charles, the title of Prince of Wales.
- First broadcast of the long-running BBC TV children's programme Blue Peter.
1959 - Alaska is admitted as the 49th U.S. state, followed by Hawaii as the 50th.
- The Barbie doll debuts.
- The original Mini designed by Sir Alec Issigonis is launched
- The first section of the M1 motorway in England opens.
1960 - 1960 Winter Olympics held at the Squaw Valley & Summer games in Rome.
- Soviets shoot down U-2 spy plane & pilot Gary Powers is captured
- Domino's Pizza is founded.
- British TV series Coronation Street premieres, planned as a 13-part drama.
1961 - John F. Kennedy becomes the 35th President of the USA.
- The Beatles perform for the first time at the Cavern Club.
- Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin becomes the first human in space.
- Wall constructed restricting movement between East and West Berlin.
1962 - Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev first dance together in a Royal ballet.
- Brazil beats Czechoslovakia 3–1 IN Chile to win the 1962 FIFA World Cup.
- Marilyn Monroe dies from an overdose of sleeping pills and chloral hydrate.
- Cuban missile crisis.
1963 - Valentina Tereshkova in Vostok 6 becomes the first woman to go into space.
- Martin Luther King, Jr. delivers his I Have A Dream speech.
- Christine Keeler is arrested for perjury for her part in the Profumo Affair.
- Assassination of John F. Kennedy: In a motorcade in Dallas, Texas.
