Den 19. april 1906 blev København-Slangerup-banen indviet. Banen
Hareskovbanen.
Det kunne have været
at finde fire mikro-caches: KSB
#1, KSB #2 (lukket), KSB
#3 og KSB
#1
b = 4600 (tallet var i den nu lukkede KSB #2)
dato i de to årstal)
e = 2+d
f = 222+b/8
g = d-a-1
h = c+d-a+6
Cachen findes så på N 55° e.f', E 12°

On 19 April 1906, the Copenhagen-Slangerup railway (KSB) was
inaugurated. It ran for 34.2 km from Lygten in Copenhagen quarter
Nørrebro to Slangerup through the Hareskov forest and the town of
Farum. The railway was taken over by the national railway, DSB, in
1948, and in 1954 the railway was shortened back to Farum and the
name was changed to Hareskov Forest Railway. In 1971 it was decided
to move the Copenhagen terminus from Lygten to the Central Station
and Lygten station was closed in 1976. It is now 2006 and the
railway can celebrate its 100th anniversary. The celebrations take
many forms along the railway – and of course, it will also be
celebrated geocaching style.
The significance of the railway to the Copenhagen suburbs can
clearly be seen if you follow the railway all the way out to Farum.
It would be interesting to see how towns like Lynge and Slangerup
would have looked today, had the railway not been shortened back in
1954.
Along the now closed part of the railway you can still find
traces of the railway today. Most obviously in the form of
preserved station buildings along the route but you can also find
remains of the rail embankment in several places. This multi-cache
will visit a total of five places along the railway – should you
wish to visit even more stations, you can read a lot more on
www.slangerupbanen.dk
(Danish only).
The coordinates above will take you to a railway bridge but
there is no railway underneath it. You might be tempted to think
that this was where the Copenhagen-Slangerup railway was running,
but in fact there has never actually been a railway at this point –
this was where the proposed Mid Sealand Railway was supposed to be,
but it was never built …
To find the right coordinates for this cache you will have to
locate four micro caches: KSB
#1, KSB #2 (archived), KSB
#3, and KSB
#4. Each of these contains a clue in the form of a fact about
some KSB rolling stock. These clues are in Danish but you should be
able to pick out the necessary information to be used below:
a = The number of passengers in the carriage mentioned in
KSB #1
b = 4600 (this was in the KSB #2 cache)
c = The length (in centimetres) of one of the locomotives
mentioned in KSB #3
d = The lifetime of the carriage mentioned in KSB #4 (assume
the same date in both years)
e = 2+d
f = 222+b/8
g = d-a-1
h = c+d-a+6
You can find the cache on N 55° e.f', E 12°
g.h'. This is a place on the old rail embankment.
Slightly east of the hiding place you will find a school camp –
part of this is the old Lindholm station. Alongside the driveway
you can still see remains from the time of gravel transports on the
railway as parts of the old gallows used for loading gravel onto
trains are still in place.
The container is a semi-clear plastic container with a tight
snap lid. Initial contents: FFC, log book, muggler info, pencil,
pencil sharpener, magnifier, reflective key ring, two types of
bells, easter egg, and micro bear.
First Finder's Bonus: Send us a picture of yourself holding the
FFC and enclose your address – we will then send you two tickets
for Nordsjællands Veterantog, a
heritage train operating all around North Sealand with old KSB
carriages, including trips on the remains of the
Copenhagen-Slangerup railway this autumn.
Thanks to Hans-Henrik Landsvig, slangerupbanen.dk for
