Trophy Travelbug by TrailRun

I love running trails, and mud's the best,
Please give me a hand in running west.

Basic mission: WEST Please move me west if possible, but if not I'd just like to keep moving. My owner will post his running mileage and see if he can outrun me. My preference is to hit some good trails on the way west, and then to make the jump to Lahaina, Maui.

Although I'm a long way from winning hardware, I love to run, and geocaching has provided me with a lot of new and interesting destinations.

Around the time I turned 40, my brother inspired me to run my first marathon and it has been very rewarding.

I began trail running during marathon training and my favorite events have been on trails, including Dances With Dirt (www.danceswithdirt.com), and the Tecumseh Trail Marathon (www.dinoseries.com).

The starting cache for this TB is near one of my favorite trails. The mud on the trophy was inspired by the "This Sucks" leg of Dances with Dirt. Here's my loooong race report from DWD 2005: (Visit link)

Up until March 12, 2007 I was holding my own against Trophy, but it made a big move and I have some catching up to do. The graph below shows the mileage over time. On November 17, 2007 Trophy reached its goal of reaching Lahaina, Maui and it is now stopped (I hope) with my brother. Maybe sometime I'll catch up. I plan to keep logging miles here as I make progress. (That will be slow in the near future until some knee problems are resolved.)

More milestones: 8/19/10: Reached mileage for first Montana caches reached by TB: GC12MJE on 6/7/07 (6224.26) and GCY2A8 on 6/14/07 (6226.84) 8/29/10: Passed halfway point of total TB mileage goal in Maui. Running mileage: 6304.33, Total TB mileage: 12574.40

On March 29 I reached another milestone. Now I am less than 7000 miles behind, with 6996.70 miles to go. That's 5577.7 miles so far, so I'm not even halfway there, but God willing, I'll run the rest of the distance.

It's been a while, but I'm still tracking my miles, including vs. this TB. It's great to be running again without problems. I'm mixing in cycling, swimming, and weights now, but running is still my main focus. I finally caught up with the huge jump in miles from Virginia to Montana, clearing 5522.31 miles on 3/19/10, compared to 4/13/07 when Trophy got to 5514 miles. I'm now 7052.09 miles behind, and am planning to sign up for another marathon soon.

Trophy is taking some time off until I can catch up. A lot of time off. This could be a lifetime mileage goal, but on the plus side my knees are much better and I am getting some good runs in again -- nothing like the distances or paces I managed before, but I feel like I have some miles left in me. On July 16 I got the mileage under 8000 miles (7993.71 behind the TB), which puts me a little over half way from Virginia to Montana where the TB went in April 2007.

Trophy is now chillin' at my brother's place in Maui until I can catch up a bit. I had the chance to visit! These days I'm running again, but not at the mileage levels I had before. Hopefully I can run the remaining 8217.62 miles before I die.

News flash. The mileage difference is now 8891.65. All recent miles have been indoors on an elliptical machine. 😟 A doctor visit this week should give me a better idea what to expect next.

Been watching Trophy since I first moved it back in 6/05. Glad to be part of this TBs movers. Enjoyed its journey and its owners attempt at catching up to the miles. Hope TrailRuns health holds and knees heal and congrats on Trophys completion of its goal. Now I wonder if it can make it home before TrailRun can catch up with it? Best wishes, Jake

Outstanding! I might start sending my Christmas presents by Travel Bug Express. This thing has been to Nashville, Michigan, New Orleans, Houston, Virginia, Montana, Idaho, Anchorage, Seattle, and now Hawaii. This new mileage puts me at 8913.09 miles behind. But here's something cool. The direct (great circle) distance from the starting point to the goal is about 3640 miles. My mileage since Trophy left the first cache was 3661.31 miles, and I reached 3640 on 10/23/07. I think that's pretty amazing. So I'm saying I beat this sucker! 😎 Following the TB track I'm still in Virginia, farther away from the goal than when it started. Looking forward, my brother is hinting he's going to send it off to Japan. 😮 But I've asked him to hold onto it for a while. I'm planning to post my miles here each time I get another 100 miles closer, and some day a long time from now I might catch up. Also, I need to find the TB number and then I'll "grab" it from Shaggy, Scooby and Velma. Thanks everyone, I hope this has been entertaining.
