About This Item

Hanging with Dave Matthews and My Friend Debbie

This is my personal travel bug. In addition to keeping track of my mileage, I'll use it record an ongoing log of our adventures.

This Bug shares my screenname that I use on various DMB forums. It's play on the song title, "One Sweet World" and my first name. The Dave Matthews Band is my favorite band and I've seen them in concert over 50 times. I've traveled across the country to see them play making it as far as Washington state! I thought it fitting name for my personal TB, as I've been quite the travelbug in my past!

[Warning: The TB logs and photos may contain spoilers.]

If you meet me on a geocache hunt, ask me for the TB tracking number and you can log a find.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/23/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Pickle Hill New York   Visit Log

I almost went for Pickle Hill last night as I was online when it was published and it is soooo close to our house. But I refrained. (Mostly due to Mr. Bear Paughs not wanting me to go out, because I was very much itching to!) So we put this one on hold. I didn't think we'd have any time to cache at all today, but ten minutes was all we needed so we were happy to fit this one in after all.

This was one of the sites Julian and I had been scoping out for a cache last fall, so that made it even cooler to find the cache and see how the owner decided to do it. Julian had a ball. Ryder stayed at home for this trip, which was fine by us, because this was Julian's site anyway.

We enjoyed the cache and the site and were just happy to be able to get out at all on a day like today.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/22/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from The Feast of Hraesvelg New York   Visit Log

The boys and I stopped by the Feast of Hraesvelg amdidst running some other errands today. We had noticed the CITO geocoin a few days ago and planned to swap it for the USA geocoin we picked up at SUNY if it was still there when we were in the neighborhood. Really like the coin, it's very cool. We'll enjoy this coin until we find a good place to drop it.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/21/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Behind these Walls New York   Visit Log

Fifth and final cache for the day, with 4 out of 5 finds (should have been 5 out of 5! Darned B.W.E.!) I didn't know there was a walkway here. It was a nice park and area and the cache was nice, too. We're nearing a hundred finds!

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/21/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Happiest Place On Earth #9 New York   Visit Log

After the Bingo Walls, we headed over to Happiest Place on Earth #9. We've done one of these before (I think it was #4) and we've really enjoyed both. It was a quick and easy find, but we took some time afterwards to enjoy the river and just chill out a bit before heading over to Behind These Walls, our last cache attempt for the day.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/21/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Bingo Wall West New York   Visit Log

This was our second find, but should have been our third. We decided to do Bingo Wall East first (so the walk back wouldn't seem so long as it would be broken up by the western cache). The Bingo Wall East cache container met its demise at our hands, sadly. Being just out of reach, my fingertips brushed it and it fell -- only there was not solid ground below it, but a hole just large enough to run down the center of the column and have it become lost forever. I sent a note to Ruff Ryders to let him know what happened and tell him I'll replace his cache this weekend if he would prefer, so I'll wait to hear from him. Good grief! So mad at myself!

At least we got the Bingo Wall West cache on the way back. No problems with this one, happily! Ryder complained a lot on this cache, it was definitely not his favorite! I think he felt the walk was boring compared to the cool hikes we like to take.

Did a couple more after this one before we had to call it a day.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/21/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from GeoSurvivor II New York   Visit Log

What an adventure! It took us way longer than usual to get the boys ready to leave the house, so we started out almost an hour later than we planned. Factor in a stop at the store for portable snacks, a backseat fight involving the blue ('til you rub it in) Skin So Soft lotion, and the flat tire, and I felt GeoSurvivor could be my new nickname! Making it up the road leading to the cache was the biggest challenge, after that it was an easy find. Ryder and Julian argued over who found it first (really it was Julian.) Took the easier way back to the car and on to the Bingo Wall caches we went!

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/20/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Burned Wolf Spots New York   Visit Log

This was a super fun cache. It was the last day of school and to celebrate freedom and good report cards for both of the boys, the three of us went for ice cream and a cache. We of course took the hardest way to the cache. Julian paniced for a moment, but I reminded him what a warrior he can be and that he did things a lot more challenging last summer. We were surprised by what we found at the cache site. This was very neat and we enjoyed it a lot. Ryder's description of the cache hunt is on the log for the cache, but I'll put it here as well for our record of the day:

It was a hot summer day. Julian, Shannon, and I [Ryder] were climbing up a mountain and when we got up top, we saw a whole gang of orcs with swords that glowed like fire. They ran near us, but I [Ryder] finished them off with my Kung Fu (Aiiiy-yaaa!) The Orcs cried, "mama!" and ran away. Then the Orc leader Sauron came. I pulled out my elvin crafted football which I threw and wiped out whole clusters of retreating Orcs. I [Ryder] threw the magic football at Sauron, knocking the cache to the ground just before his hand exploded. I put a chrystal in his heart and he was trapped in it forever. I retrieved the cache. I swore next time I saw him I would give him the chinese middle finger.

I laughed so hard as Ryder dictated to me! I don't know what the chinese middle finger is, and I hope it doesn't offend anyone. I just thought it sounded funny as he told his story, so I left it in.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/11/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from SUNY - Travel Bug Beaver Lodge Resort New York   Visit Log

This was a super easy cache in a nice spot. We found our first geocoin! We dropped off Road Trip in order to keep the hotel stocked somewhat, but took Travel Bug Dog Tag since he's been sitting there too long. I'm sure its owner will appreciate it moving again.

Overall we had a really nice day at SUNY. Well, at least the time we spent geocaching. The picnic was LAME. After this cache we went ahead and found part one of A Matter of Interpretation. It will probably take a while to figure that one out. It was getting late anyway, so we headed home after that. We'll try to finish up the rest of the SUNY caches this summer.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/11/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from BU Park and Cache New York   Visit Log

Second find for the day. We think this is the first one that Ryder spotted first, and he was very excited! We took a lucky charms car, since we always call Ryder our lucky charm -- a lot of times it's his presence that is the one variable between a DNF and a find.

Retrieve It from a Cache 6/11/2006 Bear Paughs retrieved it from Hillside Cache New York   Visit Log

This was our first of a few finds for the day. The IBM family picnic was being held at the events center and I took the boys. Boy, were we ever glad that I brought our geocaching stuff with us! It definitely saved the day!

Less than an hour into the picnic they started a hypnotism show and shut down all the kids activities (what on earth were they thinking?) So we grabbed some plates and had lunch while having to put up with 20 odd teenagers pretending to be hypnotized in front of us. As soon as we finished eating we raced out of there to the car to get our gear and onto this first cache! It was a nice walk and an easy find. But more important, it gave us the perfect excuse to leave the picnic and saved our sanity!
