Current Goal

MY MISSION:
TO TRAVEL FROM A CACHE IN ALTON ILLINOIS AND GET MY PICTURE TAKEN AT 4 SPECIFIC MAJOR CIVIL WAR BATTLE MEMORIALS.
I AM THEN TO RETURN TO THE FINISH LINE IN Piasa Harbor Wildlife Lookout WAY BEFORE ALL OF THE OTHER SAD EXAMPLES OF RACE CARS.

ON THE WAY i WOULD LOVE TO BE SEEN AT MANY OTHER FAMOUS OR NOT SO FAMOUS CIVIL WAR RELATED SITES OF INTEREST, AND COLLECT AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE.

I rescued the car from a cache that had actually been muggled :-( The wacky muggles stole the ammo box but left all the stuff. They even signed the log. But the good news is that the car is on the way to bluehaven who will help it along to its next stop!

Found it in the Urbana High School Cache. I didn't know that the car was suppose to stay with the chain so the tag is without the little car. Will drop it off at my next cache.

Setting this guy free so someone else can enjoy being part of the race! The area surrounding this cache is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Wish I'd brought my camera. Bit of a hike but well worth it! Actually, the hike is no big deal. It's hoofing it up the hill on the way out that'll work you :-) Wish my school had had something like this!

We added an Antietam keychain to the TB as a souvenier and also to help cachers know the direction and temp. Tiniest compass I've seen. Wouldn't want to depend on it to get around!

We finally reached Antietam! Many pictures to come. Didn't find any regular caches today, only virtuals but I thought he should get credit for the location! Thanks for inspiring us to make the trip! We learned a ton and had a great time on such a beautiful day!

  • geo-helpers and a cannon at Antietam
  • Dunker Church Brought Joshua L Chamberlain on a full tour of Antietam. Bought the audio (CD) tour and was well worth the cost. This place is huge and so well preserved!
  • TB with battlefield behind near Burnside Bridge
  • Famous (and sad) Burnside Bridge The history of this bridge is really something. Glad I wasn't there that day...
  • Antietam National Cemetery in Sharpsburg Nearly half of the soldiers buried here were not identified.
  • Sunken Road (Bloody Lane) from Observation Tower

We were thrilled to come across this TB! We are studying the Civil War (homeschoolers) and are planning a trip to Antietam and Sharpsburg. I'll see if we can go a little sooner to keep this cool car moving. Hopefully we can find a cache up there to leave him in and then maybe another cacher can take him on to Gettysburg. By coincidence, my mom is reading The Killer Angels in which Joshua Chamberlain is written quite a lot about. How neat to have all this tied together with geocaching :-) We'll be in touch and hope to have some pictures to post soon.
