About This Item

Thanks for picking up my trackable: "Henry the Lion and his book"

It made a long voyage,  Henry and his book are from Braunschweig, Germany - my hometown.

I visited the USA twice and got home with wonderful memories. I hope to visit USA someday once again. Until than I send "Henry and his book ahead. It's goal is to visit all US states.

My I ask for a favor? Please, can you fill out in the book the list on page 4-7 for the first cache whenever "Henry and his book" visits a state for the first time.

I made also a double page for every US state. So if you like you can write down your geocaching-name, a special note, a poem or stick in a photo,... Be creativ and show me the state you are living in! I would appreciate it and be excited and pleased about it.

Thanks a lot and best regards from Germany!

Your TB made it to the southernmost tip of the continental USA!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!! It’s been a beautiful drive down through the Keys to get here. I think I am especially surprised at how big this last island is. I’m very glad the monument is back and restored after being damaged by the hurricane last year. It is quite the site to be seen. We parked a couple blocks away since that was as close as we could get to the spot, then when we got to GZ, there is a long line of people waiting to get their picture with the monument. So Super_Nate waited about 20 minutes in line while I grabbed some shots of all the TBs. People were very nice about taking pictures for each other and we turned out with some very nice pictures!
We then dipped our feet into the water so we could be in all the corners of the USA waters.

Pictures don’t do this cache justice!! It was a large plastic ammo can hidden in a wooden box in the ground. But the kicker is the handle is a weathered coconut nailed to the lid of the wooden box. When the lid is in place, there is bark chips all over the top of it and it’s very well camouflaged!!!!

This was a load of fun!!! Another way that geocaching gets you to the best places! We grabbed the cache, it’s a nice size. Then we walked around the little shops and bought a few items. I was tempted to buy a hermit crab!! Haha
Then we walked over to the pier and about had a heart attack about how big those fishies are!!!! Jeepers! Super_Nate couldn’t help himself and had to feed them. They almost look like little sharks when their fins pop out of the water. He was really good about feeding them and not freaking out and dropping the fish, that meant that he actually got the fish to jump out of the water to take his fish. One fish even swallow a bit of his hand in the bite. Thankfully no teeth!!!

This is a neat neat cache that deserves a favorite point. Not only because the cache is a good solid container... but because the place is so neat!! I’m glad they are taking care of these birdies that got hurt we walked around and met a few of them. My favorites included the two tiny owls that peered at us through sleepy, winking eyes, the funny pelicans that appear to be annoyed if they have to stretch their necks out straight and the cool green parrot that was watching the cache. One of the pelicans had a stick he would toss in the air and dip in his pond. We tried to teach the parrot how to say Geocache!! No success yet..
Thank you for bringing us here so we can visit and help out the birdies.

Well... my logs are probably going to get boring now... Super_Nate and I are certainly missing our fun cruise even though we have only been off it for a few hours. Sure hope your TB enjoyed the trip with us. I will do my best to find it the best and safest cache to leave off at.
Our Lyft driver was the one who recommended going to Wynwood, so we stopped by here and was rewarded with a neat area. This is the art district and they aren’t kidding!! There is art in every building and most of it is majestic. I think I even smelled fresh paint as we were walking by. This was good sized cache tucked in a tree near one of the restaurants.

Well between the last cache and now... one of the bike’s electric part died, so Super_Nate has been bravely petaling away. That’s nothing to sneeze at... but it isn’t getting us up the island in good timing. So we are thinking we need to get a taxi to get us back to the ship in time instead of biking back. So disappointing because we wanted to get all the caches. Well this is a very neat cache!! I hopped into the ocean nearby to cool off again since the last swim while Super_Nate was looking for it.
Well Cozumel... we need to come back and visit you again!!

So now that we have come out of the forest trail, we are biking right along the ocean!! Sadly these beaches are covered in the red seaweed. Also the red seaweed dies and is washed up on shore, this causing a nasty stench as we biked along. The beaches are the rocky type, so it is cool to see gentle waves cashing up upon the rocks, not as violent as CA rocky beaches by a long shot though.
After biking along for what seemed like forever... we found a nice spot that appeared to have much less red seaweed. Nathan and I went for a dangerous dip, keeping our chacos on to keep our feet from being cut up because the rocks are super sharp and jagged. It was a pile of fun but we didn’t stay in the water long since it took all strength not to be knocked against the sharp rocks once we were in the water.
I did a little tide pooling between waves and saw some sea anemone, sea snails, chitons and a very large crab!!!! He was tucked way under a rock, so I couldn’t get a picture.
The cache was a little ways down the road from there, but we grabbed it in ease since we felt quite a bit refreshed from the swim.

This was a quick find along our smooth cycling trail! I think I want to get myself one of these electric bikes. So much easier than working the leg muscles!! There is a lizard... oh another! And another!!

At this time we are still enjoying our electric bikes on the cool side road just for bikes! Super_Natr managed to relax pedal free on his bike and just glide along... but I’m not that talented.
This cache place is a hoot! You will just have to there yourself to read all the fun signs everywhere... mercy! It was a quick and easy find with a lovely view out over the waters. That was nice since our bike path is kind of traveling through the jungle right now and not along the beach. The staff were very friendly and it looked like a fun hangout place for all.

It was a nice bit of beautiful biking before we got to this cache! Lots of scurrying happening in the bushes as we bike by, I believe it is the lizards getting scared as we pass. They are quite big here, maybe 2 feet long is the biggest we have seen so far. It’s a little off the bike road to get this one and as we were searching for it, I got very distracted by a big brown beetle I found. Just by accident I figure out it was a click beetle and that was it... no more cache finding for me! Poor Super_Nate had to cache hunt while I clicked the beetle! He is a good hunter though because he soon had the cache in hand and I had to say goodbye to the beetle so we could continue on our journey.
