The roadside marker announces the Santa Fe Trail Crossing.  Highway 64 follows the route of the Mountain Route and this site is just a few miles north of Cimarron, an important resting place on the Trail.  There is off-road parking, and there will be some slight overgrowth

CLOSED when we got here - suggest that it be placed along the large adobe gate wall instead!

This cache requires a short hike to locate, some light overgrowth and a few slight elevation changes.  It is located on a gravel, flat, well-traveled path, on private property, but signed that "hiking is permitted". ALONG THE PATH

Pecos Nat Hist Park. Right off the trail, to the Church Convento ( near parking, along road to the west. visitor center is on road to the north) "look behind the trash cans"
While visiting the park, a ¼-mile, self-guided tour, that takes approximately two hours, will allow you to view the mission ruins and the excavated pueblo.
Park is open 8:00- 4:30. Visitor Center 0830-1600

hidden near the river in the vicinity of the Abreu family chapel, located along NM Hwy 21 and by the Philmont Scout Ranch. There will be some light overgrowth and the cache could be in one of several locations.

SE of Pecos, NM : San Miguel del Vado is south of 1-25 and about 26 miles southwest of Las Vegas, NM. San Miguel was one of the first places where caravans crossed the Pecos River, and it was the first Hispanic settlement on the trail in New Mexico  The cache is near the dirt road leading to the Santa Fe Trail river crossing.  The cache is in a fairly obvious place

I-25 exit 687 The cache is located near one of the two cemeteries just outside town. After finding the cache be sure to go to the Catholic cemetery and look for a tall alabaster monument for Charles L. Fraker “Vanguard of the Plains—Santa Fe Trail 1855-1868”.
